Councillor Sharmarke Dubow
Sharmarke Dubow was appointed to serve as a Director of CREST in 2021 and brings with him an acute understanding of the importance of safety to community well-being.
Sharmarke was elected to Council in 2018, an event that also marked the casting of his first vote since finding a safe haven in Canada in 2012. A former Somalian refugee, Sharmarke’s passion and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and building equitable, inclusive and compassionate communities has earned him recognition and respect as a community leader and as a collaborator bringing people together to strengthen the resiliency of communities.
Sharmarke holds a degree in Business Technology from the University of Cape Breton and has worked at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria and the Victoria Immigrant Refugee Services Centre. He has served in various organizations and groups as a volunteer, including the Crime Reduction and Education (CRED) Program Steering Committee for the Pacific Centre Family Services Association and the Victoria Tenant Action Group. In his capacity as Councillor, Sharmarke also serves on the following organizations:
