Councillor Karel Roessingh

Karel Roessingh is a composer, producer and musician with a degree in Music and Mathematics Education from the University of Victoria. He has studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, has written and produced music for television and film distributed throughout the world, and has recorded sixteen of his own internationally-released albums.

In 2007 he co-founded the Island Biodiesel Co-op, which he still manages and on whose board he continues to serve, and has also co-founded and directed two successful music businesses. He has taught both publicly and privately at all levels, and has been a director on the Metchosin International Summer School for the Arts Board, teaching summer workshops in improvisation and composition at the school for many years.

Karel is currently in his sixth term as Highlands Councillor, also having served two terms as Mayor, and is past chair of the Greater Victoria Public Library Board and the Capital Regional Arts Committee (now Commission), both boards on which he still sits as director.
